HOW JADED AND CYNICAL AM I WHEN IT COMES TO POLITICS?

I read this piece of very local news:

The state wants to turn Highway 26 between Janesville and Milton into a freeway with limited access. City officials say the plans will hurt businesses and cut off residential subdivisions.

My first reaction to this is that incumbent Wisconsin politicians are using the threat of this highway project to shake down the local businesses for campaign contributions.

Does that make me a bitter old crank?

Yeah, it's called a "bypass".

In this case, I REALLY think it's a shakedown. They're talking about a 4-mile stretch of road that doesn't get a hell of a lot of traffic and got a facelift just a couple years back.

It just smells.
