VOCABULARY TEST
Jim of Snooze Button Dreams found a vocabulary test containing some words that I had no idea even existed. Which surprised me, since I am a devourer of the written word. You are given 2 words and are asked to decide if they mean mostly the same thing, or mostly opposite. Here's the first 25 pairs:
1 whit iota
2 convene muster
3 seamy agreeable
4 minion myrmidon
5 perspicuous enigmatic
6 tumult babel
7 boredom doldrums
8 inimical antagonistic
9 desuetude disuse
10 dodge subterfuge
11 adminicular corroborative
12 tautology pleonasm
13 diplomatic gauche
14 expose ensconce
15 jejune sophisticated
16 tempestuous halcyon
17 haptic tactile
18 busybody quidnunc
19 glabrous hirsute
20 overlap imbricate
21 gnomic pithy
22 vituperate eulogize
23 benevolence altruism
24 moisten desiccate
25 predictable erratic
You're also optionally allowed to mark you answer as a "wild guess", strictly for your own reference.
I scored 174, but let's talk details. I had 60 of the 200 marked as "wild guess". Since each guess had a 50-50 shot, this looks about right. I only actually knew about 140 of the pairs, the other 34 or so were just blind luck.
Anyway, it's probably a 5-10 minute exercise if you want to try it. There's no actual time limit and no penalty for guessing. If you fancy yourself well-read, I highly recommend it.
My 26 miserable failures are in the extended entry. Don't read them until after you take the test, lest you accidentally learn an answer.

I found this test yesterday somewhere and attempted to take it. I think I must have ADD. I only made it through about 120 of them and finally said, "Screw it." It was frustrating. I had it tally the score from what I answered, and fared slightly worse than you. Very humbling.
I got a 166 at the end - but I realized about 3/4 of the way through that I was being dyslexic on some answers (saying same when I meant opposite and vice versa) but since I was up to almost the 175 mark, I was too annoyed to go back and check to see if I made similar mistakes earlier. LOL.
I didn't know all the words, but did know lots of them because I'm a crossword puzzle fanatic, even though I'm very bad at them.
