IF YOU LIKE THEM, YOU'LL LIKE THESE GUYS
I have my musical preferences. Certain bands and albums I like. I wish I could find more groups that sound like them. Trouble is, I don't have a lot time to go to the library to check out CD's at random. I also don't have the cash to "take a chance" on an unknown artist. File-swapping services? Forget it. I've got enough spyware & viruses on my computer already.
Thanks to Matty O'Blackfive, though, I've found a way to significantly narrow the search. It's sort of a musical version of Google. You enter in an artists name and it brings up other artists who are similar. I gave it a dry run with a couple of my favorites, and I have to agree that the "similars" it picks out ARE actually similar.

Excerpt: I hate IE. I'll tell you why. I posted a quiz the day before yesterday and it made my sidebar go away. But I didn't know that until a little while ago when the Music Plasma link I got from Harvey wouldn't display right in Mozilla so I pulled up...

Put in Tom Petty and it gave me the Traveling Wilburys and Roy Orbison as very close so I give it a thumbs up!
This visual search engine would rock if put into use on the Blogosphere!
Great find. Thanks.
Anyone know if there is anything similar for films? It would be good if you could type in a director/genre or film name and it matched it on similar lines.
Great link; thanks for the heads up! :)
About time you noticed that site... I thought everyone already knew about it or I would have blogged it....
I can just picture the blogosphere version - Type in "Bad Example" and you'd see a tiny circle way off in the corner that everyone has shunned as a pariah for being a degenerate pervert.
And if you look closely, you can see a tiny image of me watching pornos :-P
MW - that's what I thought when I saw it at Matty's place. But then I realized that I actually have a few (very few) readers that he doesn't, so I posted on it for their sake.
You might want to do it for the same reason.
I don't have any readers... just search engine hits for "hippo dog singing elephant"
MW - If I were literate, I'D be a reader.
As it is, I only go to see if you've posted any dirty pictures. I keep being disappointed.
