BETTER NOW
I've more or less recovered from the crash this morning. The short version is that I went out & bought me a new hard drive, installed Windows XP on it, then installed all the drivers & software that make my life worth living, which were still handily grouped together in my storage bin from my LAST crash.
The only tough part was trying to get my soundcard to work. Spent a couple hours screwing around with the drivers, removing & re-installing the card, turning the computer on & off, and inventing new cuss words. Turns out I'd overlooked a simple software setting.
GRRRRRR...
Anyway, no SERIOUS casualties. I keep the drafts of my blog posts on a different drive, and I still have all 3 editions of the Love Notes E-book, so that part's ok.
I did lose all my Charter e-mail, though. Fortunately, most of the important stuff is in my G-mail account. I'll ask everybody to just forget that harvolson-at-charter.net even exists. Obviously Google is more reliable than my system.
The only BAD thing (other than all the lost time) was that I lost all my bookmarks. But I should be able to Google them back into being with minimal fuss, so I'm not too worried about it.
Expect normal blogging to resume tomorrow.

Amazing recovery. Last time I had a hard drive crash it took me about 2 days to reinstall all the apps and get everything stablized. I had a back up of my data & e-mail but lost my bookmarks as well.

Ever thought of doing a spot of backup? I usually create a separate partition on any new drive, and set up a nightly backup to copy files over. You can use the Windows Backup utility to automate it every night. I use it to back up code, e-mail and *bookmarks* :-)
Dude... quit be such a cheap fucker and get an external HDD 200GB for aroound 200$$... alternatively, you could use that big ugly round thing on top of your shoulders to think about uploading your bookmarks to your MuNu site and just type in your path & filename... that way you would have access to your bookmarks from any computer with internet access...
Oh, I have to break a bad habit now. I had your charter.net e-mail memorized...
