I'LL MISS HIM, TOO, BUT...
I still have to take exception to this statement by Wolf of Four Honkies (found via Jen of Jennifer's History & Stuff)
Montgomery Scott was my favorite character on Star Trek, probably because he was the only one with a sense of humor.
He seems to have forgotten about Dr. McCoy:
"What am I, a doctor or a moon shuttle conductor?"
"I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer!"
"I'm a surgeon, not a psychiatrist!"
"I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!"
"I'm a doctor, not a escalator!"
"I'm a doctor, not a magician!"
"I'm a doctor, not a flesh peddler!"
"I'm a doctor, not a coal miner!"

And speaking of McCoy, has anyone else noticed that his relationship with Spock was an allegory for the Civil Rights movement?
Grizzled old man from Georgia forever making disparaging remarks about the race of a man who's the first one of his kind to serve in Star Fleet?
Change "green-blooded Vulcan" to "black-skinned nigger" in any one of McCoy's little rants, and you've got "In the Heat of the Night".
Star Trek = Gunsmoke... in outer-space...
Yes, I'll admit I forgot about Bones... kind of.
To me he'll always be the crazy one. He had that...that...look in his eyes. Like he was totally batshit crazy.
Just about every episode of every Star Trek was an allegory to what was currently happening in the world. While I find the 60's version highly entertaining - I got tired real real fast of the 90's version of PC crap.
So even though I loved the old show and saw all the episodes including the movies (whether good or bad), my interest in the new ones dwindled and I never saw the last season or any of follow up movies.
