CLOSETED, OR "HASN'T FOUND THE RIGHT WOMAN?"
For reasons unknown to me, Beloved Wife TNT was browsing the TV listings for Sesame Street and noted that the cast listing seemed particularly ethnically diverse.
Having grown up watching Sesame Street, I assured her that the show had ALWAYS been multicultural to the Nth degree.
Back in the 70's, there was only one white woman - Linda - but she was deaf, so that's what made HER special.
Then there's Bob. The music teacher. Who lives alone. And never married.
Now, the actor portraying Bob (Bob McGrath), is married with children, but as for the character he portrayed (Bob Johnson), do you think they were implying he preferred men, or do you think I'm reading too much into this?
Yeah, you're reading way too much.
Besides, Bert and Ernie were their gay couple. It wasn't hidden. The would even bathe together, but they were felt so it's okay...
LOL - I never stopped to think that much about Sesame Street... I'm too old for it (in other words it started after I was out of kidhood) and other than turning it on for my own kids, I tried very hard to stay far away from it. *grin*
But now that RSM mentions it... there was always something about Bert and Ernie...
Happy Thanksgiving!
YOu people are funny! I did a 1 yr internship at CTW - Children's Television Workshop and I can assure you, Bob's effeminate tendencies was not something overtly part of the show.
As for bert and ernie, I never realized they had bathed together. I know they slept, ate and roomed together. hmmmm, maybe RSM is right.
He's not gay, he has a muppet fetish.
For hot muppet-on-muppet action, call Bob...
Or whatever...
Happy Thanksgiving, Harvey! :-)
I don't know if Bert & Ernie ever bathed *together*. I *do* recall that Bert had no hesitation about walking in on Ernie during his bath, though.
Too old for Bert n Ernie, though I do believe Gumby and Pokey had a little something going... they were just too close, if you know what I mean... ;)
Heh. Bob was just Bob. I don't think he had many options! And for the record I *never* suspected Bert and Ernie of any hanky panky. My gaydar could be broken though...
Don't you remember? He and Linda were a thing!
Yes, he and Linda "hung out" quite a bit. I saw her described somewhere as his "perennial girlfriend".
"Closet insurance", more like :-)
Anyway, unlike Maria and Luis, they never tied the knot.
