OR YOU COULD JUST TRAIL OFF INTO UNCOMFORTABLE SILENCE

Reid of The Daily Whim is pondering over the topic of e-mail sign-off lines:

I don’t know that I’ve put a whole lot of thought into it, but I do know that I have settled into three basic variations; "regards, Reid" is my standard. I’ve always felt it was formal enough, yet warm enough, but not cloying ("sincerely" seems … fit for print but not for digits). If it’s someone I correspond with quite a bit, and I know that I will be again later, I use "later, Reid."

I hadn't really thought about much, before, but now that I do, I realize that I'm all over the map on this.

Sometimes I just put my name.

Sometimes nothing at all after the last sentence.

Sometimes I use some sort of phrase that references an earlier part of the e-mail, e.g. "Still confused,"

For semi-formal occasions, I'll trot out the old standard "Sincerely,".

Just depends. I write with my reader in mind, so it varies greatly.

How 'bout you?

I like to add a picture of a ducky to my farewell, sometimes a dancing Snoopy if it's Friday.

Another one of those, we gotta think things, huh? Actually, I just normally sign my name. If it is someone I know extremely well, I just use my first initial. If it is a formal letter like I would write by hand I would use sincerely.

... "all the best"

Put me in the "nothing" camp. It's too informal, in my mind, to rate anything more, most of the time.

Usually it's just my name or first initial for those I *know*...
~R or ~Richmond

If I feel the need for a bit more formality I tend to use Regards, or Warm Regards,

If I am continuing an email conversation - nothing at all.

:-)

usually "Cheers, Rachel"
to certain friends/family "lyl" (luv ya later)
to you "kiss my ass"
to Richmond "hit me again"

Hows about ..... ?

May you develop a painful ingrown asshole,

Jimbo

Actually I only use that when I write to my Congressman and Senators in Washington.

I don't usually do much myself.... but you should check out some of the the .sig files that LawDog has used over time.

I'm with Richmond - usually just my name with an em-character of some sort preceding.

When it's to do with "exes", the more traditional FOAD works for me.
